Early Start, Work/School Visits, My Intern, Market Street
Since my last post, I have been hard at work! We started a 4:30 AM show at the end of January, so I am now on air from 4:30 AM to 8 AM and then the noon show. Despite starting even earlier, I do love the morning shift for some reason!
WCBI also got a new Chief Meteorologist in Keith Gibson. He comes to us from South Dakota in hopes to get far away from snow. His efforts have been successful thus far!
I have also worked with Jake Reed, a senior at Mississippi State, this year. He is now at a point where he is doing some fill-in work for us. I am very proud of him!
I have of course been doing some school talks and weekly First Time Forecaster segments this year. My mom and grandparents also came down to the station one day to watch a noon show and then take me out to lunch. Great day!
Finally, Market Street Festival in Downtown Columbus went on the first weekend in May. I again was able to introduce some bands. Fun, hot weekend!

Last Webcast
It’s hard to believe, but my four years at Mississippi State are almost over. I graduate April 30th–19 days from today! Today is my last lab where I will do a weathercast. (Next Monday I will be doing 45 minutes of mock severe weather coverage.) So, enjoy this one! I do not know if I will get an opportunity to post any more videos…especially when I am working for a TV station, as things I record there are not my property.
I definitely picked the right day to have labs this semester. It seems I always had some active weather to talk about–be it snow, tornado possibility, or record-breaking temperatures. I hope you have enjoyed watching my webcasts as much as I have enjoyed making them.

Starting April with A Bang
Below is the webcast I recorded on Monday, the day a squall line moved through the Deep South. The event was overly hyped by The Weather Channel, but hey, it got one of its TV personalities to campus for coverage. I was around Mike Seidel a few hours Monday and got to watch him do some live shots. Fun experience.

Soggy Week
I hope everyone had a great weekend despite the strong storms that rolled through North Mississippi. Unfortunately, it looks like we won’t get much of a break from that wet weather.
Did We Skip Spring?
Today, Monday, is the first full day of spring…but temperatures reached the lower 80s! Couple that with a breeze, and you have a recipe for a fantastic day. There is plenty of sun left over for the remainder of the week, but we will cool down into the 70s Wednesday-Friday. There is also a slight chance of rain on Wednesday as a cold front comes through our area. We will get back up to the 80s for the weekend with another slight chance of rain. Quiet Start to March
Fortunately, the severe weather threat for today didn’t pan out in Mississippi. A few places saw isolated thunderstorms, but most just received a light shower. The system got a little more ramped up when it crossed over into Alabama, though. We’ll see a drop in temperatures over the next few days but have lots of sun in our area. Brief Cool Down
A front is currently making its way through Mississippi that will give a chance for some showers tonight and help to drop afternoon temperatures back to around 60 degrees for Tuesday and Wednesday. Temperatures will rebound Thursday back into the 70s, but we may get some strong thunderstorms. Check out the webcast below for more details!

Pleasant Week!
This week will be drastically different than last week. Last week we had lows in the lows teens with snowy, icy conditions. This week, look for mostly sunny skies with high temperatures in the 60s and 70s. Check out the webcast below for all of the details this Valentine’s Day!
More Snow this Winter!
Cold temperatures will follow us through the end of the week with a very good chance of getting some measurable snowfall late Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Some locations could see 2-3 inches of snow, but I think 1-2 inches is the best average. (Amounts will decrease to the south.) The event should end with some freezing drizzle early Thursday morning. Oh, and how about those Packers?! I have been a Brett Favre fan for quite a while (and therefore Packers fan), so I was excited they won the Super Bowl last night. To show my support, I wore my jersey I got when I was in about the 3rd grade. Yes, still fits.
Stormy, Cool February
A cold front is headed our way that will allow for some heavy rainfall and wind gusts up to 40 mph Tuesday afternoon and evening. North Mississippi could see some strong thunderstorms, but any severe weather looks to stay south if I-20. Behind the front those temperatures will plunge! We could even see some snow flurries Wednesday morning as some of the moisture lagging behind mixes with that cold air. Watch my webcast below for more details.
